Early morning there was an introductory session of Rock climbing, some basic techniques like Rope Knots, Different types of Holds, Repelling and Long pitch rock climbing etc., youngsters learnt the techniques from the hands of Everesters Ganesh More, Prasad Joshi, Krishna Dhokale and some climbers from Giripremi Vishal Kaduskar, Dr.Summit Mahandle, Akshay Patke, Kiran Salastekar, Dinesh Kotkar, Sanket Dhotre, Pavan Hadole, Tanmayi Gidh and Dipali Biradar. There was a spirit of happiness and excitement all through the session. They left with a whole lot of new friends, learnings and experiences at the end of the session.
The second session of interview’s at Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium went interesting discussing the issues like preservation of environment, exponential growth in industries, urbanization, mining are the main cause of deteriorating ecological balance etc. Dr. Shashank Ogle, Dr. Rahul Mungikar, Rohit Nagalkar, Dhananjay Shedbale, Mangesh Nirwane and UshaPrabha Page of Giripremi were the key speakers. Lokasatta’s Senior Subeditor Mr. Abhijeet Ghorpade hosted the session. In this session ‘Saad Anapurnechi’ book by Shri Dr. Sandeep Shrotri on his experience trekking to Annapurna base camp and Annapurna circuit trek was published.
On the last evening session of Adventure films we presented some of the our best films like ‘Lhotse-Everest 2013 Expedition’, ‘Nafta Rock climbing Expedition’, ‘Uttarakhand Disaster Work by Giripremi’ and some western films based on rock climbing and mountaineering. Hon. Padma Shri Awardee (Mountaineering) and five time Mt. Everest summiteer Mr. Dharamsattu Loveraj Singh was the chief guest. Mr. Umesh Zirpe (Leader of three Eight – Thousander Expeditions) spoke about Safety in Adventure Sports and Everester Bhushan Harshe hosted the session. And in this process, they fulfilled aim of promoting the sport among the young lot and making them curious about adventure and sensitive towards the outdoors.
Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
