Aavhan 2014... Dare to Succeed ....
The 10th season of Giripremi's 'Aavhan', AAVHAN 2014, was kicked off in the enthusiastic company of more than 200 participants and their parents. Aavhan is an initiative by Giripremi to impart knowledge and education of Mountaineering Sports especially to the school children and youth. The meet was held on 19th July, Sunday, at Apte Sabhagruha. In this introductory meet, the participants and parents were acquainted with the idea, aims and activities under Aavhan.
The love for adventure and mountaineering needs to be instilled at a young age and developed over the years. With the same idea, Aavhan, since its inception in 2004, aims at inspiring young minds , in the age group of 10-16 years to engage in the outdoors with a spirit of adventure and curiosity. Various activities planned round the year include treks, rock climbing, river crossing, nature walks and knowledge sharing of other outdoor skills like backpacking, map reading, first-aid, etc. This is perhaps the most interactive and interesting way of understanding the outdoors and environment, developing friendships and soft skills and inculcating the right values and skills.
Students who have been part of this programme earlier needed no introduction to the exciting schedule that would follow in the year to come. Some of these young champs, who had accomplished the amazing feat of having reached the Everest and Annapurna Base Camps were also felicitated at the function. On this precious occasion, Shri. Vijay Joshi - Director, Cubix Microsystems and Shri. P.K. Sengupta - Board Member, Vidya Valley School graced the dais. Shri. Anand Paland - President, Giripremi conversed with parents regarding the concept and necessity of initiatives like Aavhan.

Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
