To develop confident and daring attitude amongst youth, Guardian Giripremi Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM) has launched a comprehensive outdoor education programme Avhaan-Nirmaan-Udaan (ANU) for school children.
Outdoor education connects us to the nature and teaches us to appreciate natural beauty and behave responsibly. Ever since the Stone Age era, nature has been playing a crucial role in human evolution. It has been a greatest source of energy mankind has ever fortunate to have. Today, with the fast growing cities, technological development; wilderness is on a retreat. Still there are enough places in Sahyadri, which continue to sensitize us with their pristine beauty and overwhelm us with awe-inspiring wisdom.
Giripremi Mountaineering Club has been dedicatedly conducting Avhaan Programme for past 10 years with the motive of creating a generation of daring minds. From this year onward, the onus has been shouldered by GGIM. This year Avhaan (level 1: for new outdoor enthusiasts) and Nirmaan (level 2: for those who have prior experience in outdoors) will begin and next year onward, Nirmaan qualifiers can pursue Udaan (Level 3). Activities and courses such as trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering, camping, environmental science, history, archaeology and geography of Sahyadri, photography, science and technology in mountaineering and biodiversity studies will be newly conducted via experiential learning by highly trained mountaineers. These modules will play a crucial role in nurturing leadership, team spirit and caring attitude toward others. Children will learn new skills, knowledge and experience and carry home unforgiving memories. The curriculum for this programme is divided in 10 months which will have an outdoor activity for every 8 months, 3-4 days camping session in Diwali vacation and a 10-12 days Himalaya Trek in summer vacation. At the end of the programme, all the participants will be certified by GGIM.
Through ANU, GGIM wish to bring students closer to the wilderness, instil boldness and self-reliance and make them able travellers not only in outdoors but in every walk of life.
Secondly, ANU will be the chief catalyst in evolving student’s overall personality. Each of the modules will carve various facets of individual’s nature. There will be the times when students will face hardships; there will be the challenges they have never seen and there will be the emotions they have never experienced. Through ANU, they will learn to face fear. They will imbibe qualities such as modesty, courtesy and respectfulness. They will be fierce, persistent and hard working in chasing their goals. And one day, they will be the true responsible citizens India is in dire need.

Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
