On an auspicious occasion of ‘Everest Day’ Giripremi Mountaineering Club is set to climb one of the toughest mountain in Indian Himalaya, Mt. Indrasan and another equally challenging and virgin Pk 5260.
For mountaineering fraternity, this year marked a significant milestone of 100th birth anniversary of late Sherpa Tenzing Norgey and Golden Jubilee year of India’s first successful military expedition.
The programme began with all hosts and guests offering their heartfelt condolences to the tragedy struck people of Nepal. Giripremi team had extended their full cooperation on moral, financial and technical levels. A short film highlighted Giripremi’s rescue and relief operation conducted in Nepal.
On this occasion of ‘Everest Day’, a video clip on India’s first ever successful Mt.Everest Expedition was displayed. Mr. Umesh Zirpe, Leader of Giripremi’s Mt. Everest 2012 and 2013 expeditions, further spoke about the details of importance of this auspicious year.
Mr. Manish Sabade, Director of newly formed Guardian Giripremi Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM) officially launched ‘Avhaan 2015-16’ an outdoor education programme for youth. Mr. Ganesh More presented detailed information about the programme.
For this special programme, honourable guests Dr. Jagvir Singh, Scientist F/Director at Ministry of Earth Science, Delhi, Mr. Sudhakar Nangnure, Jt. Director, Town Planning Dept. Maharashtra and Mr. Omprakash Bakoria, I.A.S. (Additional Commissioner, PMC) were present.
The dual expedition to Mt. Indrasan and Pk 5260 was officially launched at the hands of honourable guests. Mt. Indrasan Expedition will be led by Everester Bhushan Harshe whose team comprise of experienced climbers Mr. Ganesh More, Mr. Akshay Patke and Mr. Sumit Mhandale. While Pk 5260 will be led by Everester Anand Mali whose team is young and dynamic comprised of Mr. Kiran Salastekar, Mr.Bhushan Shet, Mr. Pawan Hadole, Mr. Sanket Dhotre, Mr. Dinesh Kotkar and Mr. Aniket Kulkarni. Mr. Bhushan Harshe and Mr. Anand Mali shared their thoughts on this joint expedition. This dual expedition will be scaled under the guidance of Mr. Umesh Zirpe. All the team members were present at the function.
After the flag off ceremony, honourable guests, shared their thoughts on contribution of metrological department in mountaineering, importance of disaster management education and outdoor education. The programme was concluded by a short film on India’s first successful Mt.Everest expedition in 1965.
On this special occasion, Mr. Anand Palande, President Giripremi, Mr. Manish Sabade, CMD Guardian Corporation, Mr. Vijay Joshi, Director Cubix Microsystems, Giripremi’s Mt.Everest expedition leader, Umesh Zirpe and Mr. Avinash Kandekar, Secretory Giripremi were present on the stage. Mr. Ajit Tate anchored the programme while Mr. Prasad Joshi concluded the programme with a vote of thanks.
Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
