Pune based Giripremi mountaineering club has been chasing its Quest of Eight Thousanders since 2012. After successfully summiting Mt. Everest in 2012, Mt. Lhotse (world’s 4th highest) in 2013 and Mt. Makalu (World’s 5th highest) in 2014, this year Giripremi will be attempting Mt. Cho Oyu, world’s 6th highest mountain (8201 m) and Mt. Dhaulagiri, world’s 7th highest mountain (8167 m) in April 2016.
In a specially held programme at Nehru Auditorium, Ghole road, Expedition Flag Off ceremony took place. Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (Retd.), Olympic shooter Ms. Anjali Bhagwat, Mr. Nandkishor Pujari (GM) Bank of Maharashtra and Haware group’s CMD Mr. Suresh Haware were the chief guests of the programme. Smt. Ushaprabha Page (Founder, Giripremi), Mr. Anand Palande(President, Giripremi), Mr. Manish Sabade(CMD, Guardian Corp.), Mr. Vijay Joshi (Director, Cubix Microsystems India Pvt.Ltd.) were present on the dais.
‘Its our duty to encourage the armed forces serving our nation on the boarders of Siachen, who have to deal with the harshest of the conditions.’ Mr. Gokhale appealed to the audience. While, Anjali Bhagwat motivated everyone by highlighting the importance of physical as well as mental preparations for high altitude. Ms. Anjali Bhagwat handed over the Indian Tricolour to the Giripremi’s Mt. Dhaulagiri & Mt. Cho Oyu Team.
Expedition leader Mr. Umesh Zirpe appealed to the audience that, after Mt. Everest, Giripremi is pursuing the remaining 13 eight thousenders. The quest requires substantial financial support and it is possible only by joint efforts of every mountain lover.
The major sponsors namely Cubix Microsystems India Pvt.Ltd, Guardian Corporation, Varroc & Vidya Valley school, Haware Builders, LIC, Janata Sahakari Bank Ltd, Bank of Maharashtra, handed over their banners to the team . 40 students from Vidya Valley School were present to cheer the team.
Under the leadership of Mr. Umesh Zirpe (Shivchatrapati Awardee), Mr. Ganesh More (Everester), Mr. Ashish Mane (Everester) , Mr. Prasad Joshi (Everester), Dr. Sumit Mandale, Mr. Pawan Hadole & Mr. Akshay Patke are participating in this mountaineering expedition.
Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
