There's a weather beaten terrain, there's fierce race among tough competitors, there's uncertainty and disorientation, along with an endeavour to keep moving ahead taking on the dark and rough weather. The Annual K2S Monsoon Adventure Race, organised by NEF is a gruelling route beginning from Katraj Tunnel Top. It demands one to cross a distance of 16km, over 13 hillocks and valleys under mighty rains; then hike to the top of Sinhagad fort to complete this challenging trek.
In this 12th edition of K2S, with an overwhelming 350 teams participating, two of Giripremi's teams emerged victorious. Team Vidya Valley, led by Anand Mali bagged the second position in the Monsoon Adventure Trek from the Open Mix Category. The team finished this daring trek in a mere 3 hours 08 minutes! This feat wouldn't have been possible without his teammates Sumit Mandale and Sunita Khawale. Vidya Valley school extended its support for the team in the event by sponsoring the trio.
Team Ganimi Kawa, led by Prathamesh Salunke, and with his teammates Bhushan Shet and Tanmayi Gidh were the 1st Runners Up in the Collegians Mix Category of the K2S Night Trek. They hit Sinhagad top in 3 hours 53 minutes braving the rain, fog and wind. Team Summiters consisting of members Naren Patil, Abhijeet Patil and their partner Priyanka Chinchorkar also put up a commendable performance at the event, displaying an exemplary performance of team effort and spirit!
The winning teams were felicitated at a function held at S.P. College the following day in the company of the cheering crowd! Kudos to all the teams for their creditable efforts and achievements! We look forward to bringing many more laurels to the club.
Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
