20/04/2017: First day in the "Khumbu Icefall"

Today was the first rotation in the Khumbu Icefall.. Going through the gigantic jigsaw of ice and snow, crossing the crevasses and climbing the ice walls using ladders gave the hint of challenges on the way ahead.

19/04/2017: Base Camp Puja - May Godes Chomolungma be with us

Today was the auspicious day at Everest Base Camp. After settling down here at 17500 feet, it was time to worship the mountain and the equipment. The ceremony lasts typically for 2-3 hours. Lama chants and offers various local food and drinks as holy Prasad to the Lord Buddha and Godes Chomolungma.

15/04/2017: Team meets with the snowfall at Lobuche and now heading to Gorakshep

Team started their trek further to Dingboche and reached Lobuche on 14th April. The weather was cloudy at Lobuche. Umesh met with many old sherpa friends including Dindi sherpa who was part of Giripremi's Mt. Makalu 2014 expedition. Lobuche was crowded with flocks of people visiting Everest Base Camp from all over the world who had halted there to spend the night on their way to base camp.

After a nights halt at Mother Earth mountain lodge, they were welcome by the heavy snowfall at 5000 meters. After having their breakfast, they have started towards Gorakshep and expected to reach there by today afternoon.

08/04/2017: First glimpse of Mt. Everest on the trek to Namche Bazar

After a stay at Monjo, team proceeded to Namche Bazar, the weather was good sky was clear. After completing the formalities at the Sagarmatha National park check post, they had to once again show their documents at the entry gate of Namche Bazar. Having walk for 3-4 hours, at around 11500 feet, when they started feeling the effect of altitude, they were stunned by the first glimpse of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse just an hour before entering into Namche. Now they will have a good acclimatization schedule to follow in next 2 days before they leave Namche.

06/04/2017: Fly to Lukla and trek begins

Finally after completing all the formalities, gear check, taking the blessings from pashupatinath and offering prayers at lama pooja, mama and vishal boarded the flight to Lukla.

04/04/2017: Final Preparationa and Pooja at Kathmandu

Mama and vishal rearranged their equipment, clothing for high altitude camps. Especially they checked in details the oxygen masks, cylinders and down suits. After which they attended Pooja of propitiation at the hands of Lama and sought the blessings of Lama for their expedition

02/04/2017: See off at Pune Airport and arrival to Kathmandu

At 3 30 AM, giripremi office was flooded with friends, relatives,well wishers, and most of the giripremi members. To bid farewell to mama and vishal for their Mt. Everest expedition. The duo left Pune airport at 5:30 to KTM. In KTM, Peak Promotion chairman, Kashab Paudyal welcomed them at airport.

30/03/2017: Mrs. MuktaTilak, Mayor, Pune Municipal Corp. hands over the tricolour to Giripremi’s mountaineers

Mr. Umesh Zirpe, Giripremi’s senior mountaineer & leader of five 8000der expeditions & Mr. Vishal Kaduskar, a mountaineer who has dedicated himself towards mountaineering, are embarking on the challenge of Mt. Everest Expedition on 2nd Apr 2017. Mrs. MuktaTilak, Mayor, Pune Municipal Corp. wished her compliments to the duo, on the occasion of informal Flag off ceremony held at Mayor House on 30th Mar 2017.

Vishal Kaduskar Umesh Zirpe Pune, the city once known for the mountain lovers, is now a spurring nucleus of hard-core mountaineers. The energetic culture here and needless to mention the Patriarch Sahyadri himself, are the chief catalysts in planting healthy mountainous aspirations in brave hearts of this city. The organization that has been relentlessly pursuing the sport of mountaineering and spreading the awareness of this sport among masses for past 35 years, is none other than Giripremi. It started its journey of mountaineering with a motto of ‘mountaineering for happiness’ and by now already has more than 35 challenging Himalayan summits completed. Since 2012, Giripremi has been pursuing the quest of 8000ders. A daring vision only a few can dream and perhaps only Giripremi has set forth chasing. Till now, Giripremi successfully summitted, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu& Mt. Dhaulagiri. 5 mighty 8000ders in five years! In 2012, 8 Giripremians reach to the top of Mt. Everest; and in 2013, three more achieved this feat. Today Girirpemi holds the record of having led 11 Everesters to the top of the world.

Mr. Umesh Zirpe has played an instrumental role in leading all these expeditions to success. This year, he himself along with Vishal Kaduskar have decided to attempt this 60 days long expedition. As per the tradition of complimenting the team for expedition success, Giripremi organized a flag off ceremony. It was conducted at Mayor’s house yesterday.

“It’s a moment of pride to have 11 Everesters in our city. And today Mr. Umesh Zirpe, who has been the visionary stalwart behind this great deed, is now attempting the Everest, makes this expedition a special not only for Giripremi but for the whole City. On behalf of all Punekars, I wish both, Mr. Umesh Zirpe& Mr. Vishal Kaduskar, success and safe return.”, said Mayor, Mrs. MuktaTilak.

On this occasion, Giripremi president Mr. AnandPalande, Giripremi founder Mrs. Ushaprabha Page, Mr. Pradip Kurulkar- Director, DRDO, Mrs. Nalini Sengupta- Principal Vidya Valley School, Mr. Vivek Gupta- Director, Vidya Valley School, Prof. Darade Patil- DIN, MIT College, Secretory Mr. Avinash Kandekar, Co-ordinator Mr. Niranjan Palsule & all Giripremi well-wishers along with Giripremi’s Everesters were present for the programme.

‘गिरिप्रेमी’चे उमेश झिरपे व विशाल कडूसकर ‘एव्हरेस्ट’ मोहिमेसाठी रवाना

पुण्याच्या महापौर सौ मुक्ताताई टिळक यांच्या हस्ते मोहिमेसाठी तिरंगा ध्वज प्रदान

‘गिरिप्रेमी’ या महाराष्ट्रातील अग्रगण्य गिर्यारोहण संस्थेचे जेष्ठ सदस्य व प्रमुख मोहिमांचे नेते उमेश झिरपे व ‘गिरिप्रेमी’चा तरुण गिर्यारोहक विशाल कडुसकर जगातील सर्वोच्च शिखर ‘माउंट एव्हरेस्ट'च्या चढाई मोहिमेसाठी येत्या २ एप्रिलला रवाना होणार असून त्यांना शुभेच्छा देण्याचा व मोहिमेसाठी भारतीय तिरंगा व महाराष्ट्राचा भगवा ध्वज प्रदान करण्याचा कार्यक्रम पुण्याच्या महापौर सौ मुक्ताताई टिळक यांच्या उपस्थितीत गुरुवारी ३० मार्च रोजी महापौर बंगल्यावर पार पडला. महापौरांच्या हस्ते मोहिमेचे ध्वज झिरपे व कडुसकर यांना प्रदान करण्यात आले.

‘गिरिप्रेमी’ ही महाराष्ट्रातीलच नव्हे तर देशातील एक प्रमुख गिर्यारोहण संस्था असून आतापर्यंत एकूण ११ सदस्यांनी ‘एव्हरेस्ट' शिखर सर केले आहे. २०१२ साली ‘गिरिप्रेमी’ने ‘माउंट एव्हरेस्ट'वरील भारतातील सर्वात मोठी नागरी मोहिम यशस्वी केली होती. या मोहिमेच्या दरम्यान एकाच दिवशी ‘गिरिप्रेमी’तील तब्बल आठ गिर्यारोहकांनी ‘माउंट एव्हरेस्ट’वर तिरंगा फडकाविला होता. पुढे २०१३ साली ‘माउंट एव्हरेस्ट- माउंट ल्होत्से’ ही दुहेरी मोहीम, २०१४ साली ‘माउंट मकालू' व २०१६ साली ‘माउंट च्योयू व माउंट धौलागिरी’ या जगातील प्रमुख अष्टहजारी शिखरांवरील मोहिमा यशस्वी केल्या आहेत. या सर्व मोहिमांचे नेते उमेश झिरपे यावेळी स्वतः ‘माउंट एव्हरेस्ट' मोहिमेसाठी जाणार असून त्यांच्या सोबतीने गिर्यारोहण क्षेत्रामध्ये वाहून घेतलेला संस्थेचा तरुण सदस्य विशाल कडूसकर असणार आहे. हे दोघेही जण ६० दिवसांच्या आव्हानात्मक मोहिमेसाठी पुण्याहून २ एप्रिलला निघणार आहेत. संस्थेच्या प्रथेप्रमाणे, मोहिमेवर जाणाऱ्या गिर्यारोहकांना शुभेच्छा देण्याचा व मोहिमेसाठी ध्वज प्रदान करण्याचा कार्यक्रम आखण्यात आला होता. तो काल महापौरांच्या उपस्थितीत पार पडला.

महापौर सौ मुक्ताताई टिळक यांनी शुभेच्छा देताना सांगितले, “पुण्यातील गिरिप्रेमी संस्थेचे अकरा सदस्य ‘एव्हरेस्ट'वीर असणे ही पुण्यासाठी अभिमानास्पद गोष्ट आहे तसेच या यशाचे शिल्पकार व मोहीम नेते उमेश झिरपे यावेळी स्वतः ‘एव्हरेस्ट' चढाईसाठी जाणार असल्याने या मोहिमेला अधिक महत्व प्राप्त होते. मी झिरपे यांना व त्यांचा तरुण सोबती सदस्य विशाल कडुसकर यांना पुणे शहराची प्रथम नागरिक म्हणून सर्व पुणेकरांच्या वतीने मोहिमेसाठी हार्दिक शुभेच्छा देते.”

ध्वजप्रदान कार्यक्रमाला महापौर यांच्या समवेत नगरसेवक धीरज घाटे, ‘डीआरडीओ’चे संचालक प्रदीप कुरूळकर, माननीय शैलेश टिळक, ‘महाराष्ट्र इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी’ (एम आय टी) चे डीन शरदचंद्र दराडे पाटील, ‘विद्या व्हॅली’ शाळेच्याप्रमुख नलिनी सेनगुप्ता, संचालक विवेक गुप्ता, उपस्थित होते. त्याचसोबत ‘गिरिप्रेमी’ संस्थेच्या संस्थापिका उषःप्रभा पागे, अध्यक्ष आनंद पाळंदे, कार्याध्यक्ष निरंजन पळसुले, कार्यवाह अविनाश कांदेकर, ‘गिरिप्रेमी’चे एवरेस्टवीर गणेश मोरे, भूषण हर्षे, कृष्णा ढोकळे, आनंद माळी, चेतन केतकर, प्रसाद जोशी तसेच सर्व सदस्य, हितचिंतक व पुणे शहरातील प्रमुख नागरिक झिरपे व कडुसकर यांना शुभेच्छा देण्यासाठी आवर्जून उपस्थित होते.

Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
