After three consecutive eight thousender expeditions including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Makalu; Giripremi is set for yet another mammoth challenging feat this year.
The year 2015 marks a special milestone for entire mountaineering fraternity. This year is the 100th birth anniversary of a great mountaineer, none other than the first Everest Summiter Sir Sherpa Tenzing Norgey. Secondly, this year is the golden jubilee year for India’s first successful Everest Expedition. This year, Giripremi has decided to pay their tribute to these legendary mountaineers, by planning three expeditions to Mt. Indrasan (6221 m), unnamed virgin peak 5260, Mt. Cho Oyu (8201 m).
Dual Expedition to Mt. Indrasan and Peak 5260 Mt. Indrasan is perhaps among the toughest of the climbing peaks. Very few expeditions are planned for this peak. This would be the first expedition from Maharashtra. For this expedition, under the leadership of Everester Bhushan Harshe; Everester Ganesh More, Dr.Sumit Mandale and Akshay Patke have been chosen. Near to Mt. Indrasan, lies a virgin peak 5260.Giripremi’s new generation will attempt this mountain under Everester Anand Mali’s leadership. The team consists of Bhushan Seth, Kiran Salastekar, Sanket Dhotre, Dinesh Kotkar, Pawan hadole and Aniket Kulkarni. Both mountains are located in Himachal Pradesh. This dual expedition will be guided by Giripremi’s Everest-Lhotse-Makalu leader Mr. Umesh Zirpe and senior mountaineer Mr. Avinash Fousdar. The expedition will take place in the month of July.
Expedition to Mt. Cho Oyu (8201 m) ‘Cho Oyu’ is world’s sixth highest peak located on Nepal-Tibet boarder. This is India’s first civilian expedition to Mt. Cho Oyu. In 1952, under Eric Shipton’s leadership, Edmond Hillary and Tom Bordilon had attempted the first British expedition to this peak. In 1954, Australian climbers first summited this Peak. Giripremian’s will attempt this peak from Tibet side. Onus of leadership lies on Mr. Umesh Zirpe’s shoulder, who has been a successful leader of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Makalu Expeditions. Anand Mali, Ashish Mane, Prasad Joshi and Dr.Sumit Mandale are the climbing members in this expedition while Mr. Ajit Tate will take the responsibility of base camp manager. All Giripremian’s are practicing rigorously for these expeditions.
Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
