Giripremi is one of the pioneer mountaineering organizations in India. Based in Pune, an important city in western India, the club has 11 members who have summited Mt. Everest and the club has successfully scaled the world’s six ‘Eight Thousanders’ - eight-thousand-Meter-high peaks. The vision of Giripremi is to promote love towards mountain and mountaineering in Indian society. We also work towards the upliftment of mountain people specifically in Khumbu valley in the Himalayas and the Western Ghats in India through the promotion of mountain tourism and children education.
Every year, International Mountain Day is celebrated on December 11. One-seventh of the world’s population lives in mountain areas, whereas remaining one third is largely dependent on the natural resources, originating in Mountains. Thus, the awareness about preserving mountain ecosystem has become a need of an hour. To create awareness about the mountain issues, United Nations celebrate International Mountain Day with a unique theme every year. This year, the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations has chosen Mountain Matters as a theme to celebrate the Mountain Day. Giripremi has planned several programs to create awareness about the cause and emphasize the contribution of mountaineers to the development of an ecosystem of the mountain region.

Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
