Pune, the city of mountain lovers where splendid Sahyadris have always motivated countless mountaineers, trekkers and nature lovers. They have played an instrumental role in weaving together human spirit with a devotion to nature. Today, the festive moments for mountain lovers have rekindled. A vacuum of dedicated mountaineering training centre is going to fill up very soon. To boost the existing mountaineering culture and incorporate methodical and ethical climbing approach, Guardian Corp. and Giripremi Mountaineering Club have jointly embarked on a mission to start a first of its kind mountaineering institute in Maharashtra at Mulshi, near Pune. It will be formally known as Guardian Giripremi Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM).The launch ceremony of GGIM is scheduled on 24th Jan 2015 at the hands of a very special guest Ms. Sarita Devi, India’s Olympic Boxer.
Guardian Corp. founded in 1991 by company’s CMD Mr. Manish Sabade, is a renowned group serving in diverse sectors such as real estate, tourism, retail, entertainment, sports & leisure and dance academy. Mr. Sabade being a mountaineering enthusiast and having done his basic course in Mountaineering, believes strongly in promoting the outdoor adventure culture to uplift the young spirited minds.
With a motto of ‘Mountaineering for Happiness’ Giripremi was founded in 1982 by Veteran mountaineers Mr. Anand Palande, Mrs. Ushaprabha Page and three others. For past 33 years, Giripremi has been one of the pioneer organizations working in the field of mountaineering. Today, Giripremi is recognized at national and international levels, for its exceptional endeavors in mountaineering in Himalayas and Sahyadris. Since 2012, Giripremi has successfully scaled three Eight Thousander mountains such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Makalu under the fierce leadership of Mr. Umesh Zirpe.
With the vast experience of more than three decades, passion towards climbing and a vision to steer the individuals to scale the heights of excellence through adventure activities; the idea of GGIM was borne. AT GGIM,the curriculum would be majorly focused on learning mountaineering skills along with imbibing the environmental awareness in students’ minds. Rock Climbing, Himalaya Mountaineering, Disaster Management, First Aid are some of the highlights of the courses to be conducted at GGIM. Keeping a focus on widening the age group, GGIM would offer training for participants across age groups ranging from 10 to 60 years.
Today the nation is in dire need of shaping responsible and ethical leaders. Leaders who will push the barriers and dare to chase the Mt. Everest of their dreams. Outdoor activity cannot bejust a hobby or a respite from daily hassles of life but a way of living a healthy life. Outdoor education is demanding but one can only reach the zeniths of their goals when challenged and emerge iron-willed and self-reliant. GGIM will serve a great platform to learn, share and create knowledge through exciting outdoor classes and adventurous experiences of wilderness. Keeping this impulsive urge of providing a stage where leaders of tomorrow will stand up and lead; primary focus at GGIM would be on students in age group of 10-16 years.
With this vision in mind, GGIM is set to be launched on 24th Jan 2015. The chief guests for the event are Arjun Awardee (Boxing) and India’s OlympicBoxer Ms. Laishram Sarita Devi and Shri. N. K. Mahajan - a veteran mountaineer.
The ceremony will begin with Short Video Clip displaying highlights of the achievements of Guardian and Giripremi. Mr. Umesh Zirpe, will talk about the need of the mountaineering institute and Mr. Manish Sabade will talk about the state of the art infra-structure being built at Mulshi along with a walkthrough of the entire project. A short film on GGIM will highlight the vision of the institute, courses to be conducted and teaching methods. Veteran mountaineer Mr. N. K. Mahajan at his age of 93 years, will share his thoughts. The special guest and one of the mentors of Giripremi Mr. Suresh Haware will share his views. The program will conclude with a short film exhibiting Giripremi`s distinguishing achievements – ‘The Quest of Eight Thousanders’ of scaling Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Makalu.

Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
