UMESH ZIRPE

An organiser and leader of three successful expeditions to 8000 m peaks, Umesh Zirpe talked on his experience of climbs on Everest and other peaks.

On Sunday afternoon we will have a seminar titled ‘Everest and Mountaineering – A Kaleidoscope of Different Perspectives and Philosophies’, with speakers such as Umesh Zirpe, Victor Saunders (on Skype), Dawa Steven Sherpa, Harish Kapadia, Divyesh Muni, Murad Lala and others covering different ‘approaches’ to climbing such as alpinist, commercial, exploratory along with the environmental impact that these expeditions have on the mountains. A panel discussion will be followed by a Q & A session.

Mountaineering is an extreme sport. It's play grounds are far from the civilization. It demands high quality equipment for safety and survival. It's probably the sport which has longest time frame. Generally, an expedition continues for several days and sometime months. All these factors impose a burden off high costs on this sport.
